The Last Great Masterpiece
Customizing the Ferrari F40 Competizione
When Enzo Ferrari personally approved the F40, he created an icon that defined a generation. Today, we’re bringing that legend to the workbench with a full custom overhaul of the 2025 Ferrari F40 Competizione casting (HYW59) from the HW Exotics series.
The real F40 debuted in 1987 to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary. It was a raw, analog beast—the first production car to break the 200 mph barrier. This Hot Wheels Competizione casting captures the aggressive track-ready version of the supercar, featuring the prominent rear wing and aero-focused front splitter.
To turn this Mainline into a masterpiece, we started by drilling the rivets to reveal the internal engineering. The F40 casting is impressively detailed, featuring a multi-part assembly: the iconic Rosso Corsa metal body, a clear greenhouse, a molded interior with engine bay highlights, and the base plate.
Ferrari F40 Fast Facts
- Enzo’s Last: This was the final car Enzo Ferrari personally oversaw and approved before his death in 1988.
- Analog Power: The real car had no power steering or traction control—just a 2.9L twin-turbo V8.
- Weight Savings: To save weight, early models even featured sliding plastic windows instead of glass.
- Hot Wheels Design: This specific casting was designed for Hot Wheels by Shawn Moghadam.
A true F40 needs a wider, more aggressive rear track. To achieve the perfect fitment with our new real-rider wheel set, we hand-built a custom 30mm rear axle. This ensures the wheels sit flush with the wide rear fenders, giving the car the “planted” stance it deserves.
With the custom axle installed and the high-detail wheels fitted, the transformation is complete. The focus shifts to the stance: those wide tires tucked under the fenders, ready for the track.
From the low-angle side profile, the aggressive splitter and lowered ride height give the car an entirely new attitude. It’s an “analog beast” brought to life in 1:64 scale.
Whether it’s sitting outside the coffee shop or tearing through an urban diorama, this custom build honors the spirit of the last great analog supercar. The F40 Competizione is no longer a toy; it’s a 1:64 scale tribute to automotive history.
